I have NEVER liked cooking steak inside the home, during the winter. Mainly because i was not good at it, as a kid i think my mom would do it in a normal steel pan, not cast iron and i just never liked the way it came out. It seemed like it ruined a good steak. So, i always looked forward to summer time and going out and grilling a nice steak.
But I have been exanding my horizns and trying to perfect cooking a nice seared steak on the cast iron and I must say, I am starting to like it very much. You need a combination of a decent cut, good seasoning and a nice crust on that baby and as long as you do not overcook it you will end up with a juicy, tasty and yes, crispy steak.
